Lake Toggia (or Lake Toggia) is located in Val Formazza (VB) upstream of Riale, the northernmost hamlet of Piedmont. Its dam, built in the years 1929-32 on the Roni Torrent, is 199 meters long and 44 meters high. A dirt road runs along the western shore and then continues towards the San Giacomo Pass which marks the border with Switzerland. The closest support point is the Rifugio Maria Luisa

Very simple walk, not demanding except for the initial climb for those who are really not very fit, highly recommended tour in my opinion

The Morasco dam is an artificial dam that originates the lake of the same name located in the upper Val Formazza, with a surface at an altitude of 1815 m above sea level. The dam was created in the 1930s by the Edison company to generate electricity for the valley by submerging the town of Morasco, a town of Walser origin inhabited since the 15th century. Morasco was the main inhabited center of the valley at the time of the construction of the dam and was now uninhabited in the winter months but was instead populated in the summer months corresponding to the mountain pasture period at high altitude. The dam is 564 meters long and 55 meters high. It has a maximum capacity of 18,400,000 m3 of water, of which 17,000,000 are actually usable. The water is then used to produce electricity in the Ponte power plant.

Absolutely. Laghetto delle Pigne, situated at 2277 meters above sea level directly within the Bedretto Valley, is a charming Ticino mountain lake offering a sense of remoteness and pristine alpine beauty. It's an ideal spot for a snack break during hikes.
The best time to visit is generally during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn (June to September), when the alpine trails are clear of snow and the weather is most favorable for hiking and enjoying the lake surroundings. Some lakes, like Morasco, are noted for their vibrant colors in summer.
While specific designated wild swimming spots are not explicitly mentioned, many alpine lakes in the region, such as Lago Tom in the Piora Valley, are known for their clear waters. However, be aware that mountain lake temperatures are typically very cold, even in summer.
You'll encounter diverse natural features, from the impressive dam structures of reservoirs like Lake Lucendro and Lake Toggia, to the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Ritom. The area is characterized by alpine landscapes, mountain backdrops, and rich biodiversity, especially in valleys like Piora.

While some lakes require hiking, the Piora Valley lakes (Lago Ritom, Lago Tom, Lago Cadagno) are notably accessible via the steep Ritom Funicular from Piotta, which is a short distance from the Bedretto Valley. This makes them relatively easy to reach without a car.
Lago Cadagno, located in the Piora Valley, is unique for its meromictic nature. This means its water layers do not mix, leading to distinct upper and lower layers that support different microbial life. It's also considered one of the most productive alpine lakes in Ticino for fishing.
Yes, Lago Tom in the Piora Valley is noted for its beautiful setting and clear water where small fish are visible. It even has a 'sandy beach' area that gives it a Caribbean feel, making it a pleasant spot for relaxation.
