March 30, 2026, Gammelgarden Museum

Gammelgården Museum (Swedish for "Old Farm") is an 11-acre open-air museum in Scandia, Minnesota. It is the only museum in the United States dedicated specifically to preserving the history and heritage of Swedish immigrants. The museum features five historic buildings, including Minnesota's oldest Lutheran church, built in 1856, and a log parsonage. Visitors can take guided tours to view authentic artifacts, walk through a restored prairie, and visit the Välkommen Hus for exhibits and a gift shop. Visitors are welcome to walk around the site at any time, but the museum and tour hours vary, so be sure to check the museum’s website at https://gammelgardenmuseum.org/ before visiting.

A quiet spot for a gentle walk, Regal Park has a grassy loop trail lined with trees—especially nice in autumn. It’s never too busy, making it a good place to stretch your legs and enjoy a peaceful break. There’s a shelter with picnic tables if you want to linger.

For a glimpse of history and a scenic stroll, hike over the Stillwater Lift Bridge, a rare example of a vertical-lift bridge that spans the St. Croix River between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Built in 1931, the bridge features steel trusses, concrete balustrades and a movable span that lifts for boat traffic12. Enjoy the views of the river and the charming town of Stillwater, then explore its cultural and natural attractions on foot or by bike. The bridge is part of a loop trail that connects to the new St. Croix Crossing Bridge3.
