Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. Detailed information can be found here: https://www.dilsberg.de/gemeinde/geschichte-dilsberg/ The remains of the castle can be visited during the summer months for a small fee. Really great view of Dilsberg. Unfortunately, the Moosfelsenweg over the ridge and the Ochsenkopfweg are heavily eroded by forest machines, so they are quite rough. When dry ok.

Great! But caution is advised.

The Ochsenkopf (415 meters) is the mountain on which the four castles are located, although it is completely forested there is a lookout tower on the summit. The tower is a few meters away from the hiking trail. From here you have a view of the Dilsberg fortress over the Neckar and Neckarsteinach.

The Dilsberg Castle Fortress is known for its fantastic panoramic view of the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald. Another highlight of the castle festivals is a bit lower - in the accessible underground well tunnel. Should be reopened from March 26th, 2021
