February 26, 2026, Ao longo da Ribeira de Sobrosa

The cycle path doesn't really deserve the name at the moment (February 2026). Due to the heavy rainfall in recent weeks, the path is rutted and muddy. We had to cross numerous streams and wade through enormous puddles. If you're looking for an adventure, this is the place 😜. In a few weeks, the paths will surely be dry and the stream just a trickle. The area is really beautiful 👌.

The path winds peacefully along the wide, verdant, and serene Sobrosa River valley. Small streams crisscross the landscape, while the rolling hills in the distance complete this bucolic setting, perfect for losing your rhythm… and your breath, amidst so much beauty.

The bar is now under Portuguese management and offers great, filling snacks such as fajitas, toasts, bruschetta, etc. Open from 2 p.m. every day except Mondays.

A place that is true to its name: a green hill with beautiful and large pine trees

This is only an issue after very heavy rains, which are rare in the Algarve. In most circumstances, it is possible to take the narrow path visible on the right handside of the photo.

In the area around Monchique you will always come across light cork oak forests. The evergreen cork oak finds ideal living conditions here. It endures drought and places low demands on the soil.

Nice bar on the church square in Barao de Sao Joao. Unfortunately now closed due to Corona.
