Guckst Du!
October 12, 2025, Kirche des Heiligen Jakob

St. James's Church in Ljubljana, the official parish church of St. James, also known as the parish church of the Ljubljana Parish - Sveti Jakob, stands on Levstik Square. Dedicated to the Apostle James the Greater, the patron saint of pilgrims, the church is the first Jesuit church in Slovenia. Its interior is decorated with works of art by various painters and sculptors, including Francesca Robba, who created the high altar from 1732 and some altars in the chapels, and Janez Šubic. The rich stone altarpieces are also adorned with black marble altars dedicated to the Holy Cross and the Sorrowful Mother of God from the last quarter of the 17th century. The church, built between 1613 and 1615, is an important example of Venetian Baroque art and culture and an important cultural monument in Ljubljana.
