The monastery church is the only remaining building of the Franciscan monastery founded in 1228. With its tall, slender pillars, it is a testament to medieval architecture and definitely worth a visit. After the Reformation, it was only rarely used for religious purposes and served various functions until 1924, including as a monastery hospital, hay barn, and riding hall for the Uhlan regiment. https://www.leipzig.travel/recherchetext/oschatz-der-schatz-in-sachsen

Four heads are mounted on the fountain basin, facing the four cardinal directions, but also representing allegories of the four times of day, the four seasons, and the four ages of man. They correspond to the heraldic panels above. There are a total of eight gilded heraldic panels on the base, whose reliefs, zodiac signs, sayings, and biblical quotations evoke a variety of associations. The differently depicted heraldic lions represent both different temperaments and the various periods of the city's prosperity. Above the cardinal directions, four animal figures spout water into the basin. These figures, recognizable as a bird, dragon, elephant, and fish, embody the four elements of air, fire, earth, and water. https://www.brunnenturmfigur.de/index.php?cat=Brunnen%20und%20Wasserspiele%2Fin%20Sachsen%20und%20Sachsen-Anhalt&page=Oschatz%20und%20M%C3%BCgeln
