The St. Anna Church in the municipality of Thüringen, in the middle of the beautiful Walgau region of Vorarlberg, is a true gem of history. A predecessor building already stood here before 1480, but the oldest part, the tower with its Romanesque sound openings, is reminiscent of long-gone times. The late Gothic structure of the chancel, consecrated in 1509, harmoniously combines with the Baroque nave from the 17th century. Particularly worth seeing is the high altar from the years 1642 to 1644, which features the well-known St. Anna selbdritt figure group; the altarpiece is by the artist Giulio Benso from 1640. The church is located quietly and idyllically south of the town center on St.-Anna-Straße 17, directly on the edge of the forest in Thüringer Au. It is not only a historical showpiece but also, with its regular Saturday evening masses, a vibrant meeting point for the parish of Thüringen in the Deanery of Walgau-Walsertal. After extensive restoration from 1990 to 1993, the St. Anna Church now shines again in new splendor.

On 18.06.2013, the wooden bridge over the Kleine Ill was completed with the utmost care and craftsmanship, a work that impressively keeps the centuries-old art of timber construction alive. Under the expert guidance of their teachers, the students of HTL Rankweil planned and built this masterpiece on behalf of Stadtwerke Feldkirch. The last roof panel was carefully nailed on last Monday and the safety scaffolding was professionally removed. For the young timber construction experts, this project was far more than just a school assignment: it was a living experience, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The bridge now stands not only as a functional crossing over the Kleine Ill, but also as a symbol of the connection between past and future in timber construction. A proud testament to craftsmanship precision and architectural elegance in harmony with nature.

This cycle path is much nicer than the one that follows the Ill River/motorway directly.

As early as the year 880, a church was mentioned on this site in connection with the cathedral chapter in the city of Chur, so we can assume that at least a small church building already existed on this site at that time. The church was first documented in 1485, the nave was built around 1680, and further alterations were made to the building between 1824 and 1827. What is special about this church is that the organ, which is usually located on a gallery above the entrance, is located here on the right in the nave – very special and extremely rare. Overall, a very impressive church, with the three altars in particular worthy of a closer look. The steel bell in front of the church is an absolute rarity, as it was cast in 1917 – towards the end of the First World War, when raw materials were very, very scarce. Because the bells needed repair, they were replaced with bronze bells in 2017. Further information about this church can be found on Wikipedia at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfarrkirche_N%C3%BCziders.
