There was already a chapel in Hörbranz in the 15th century. The church was originally a branch church of the parish of Bregenz. In 1477 it was elevated to a chaplaincy. A church was soon built and consecrated in 1488. In 1652 or 1656 the church was upgraded to a curate church. In 1753 the church was enlarged. In 1756 it was elevated to an independent parish. A further expansion took place in the years 1840 to 1850. The tower was also built at the same time. The reconstruction was consecrated in 1855.
