Beyond the enormous sandy beach, it is worth walking it from end to end. At the west end, the **River Strathy flows directly onto the sand** and you can see its dark, peat-stained waters mixing with the sea. At the opposite end, at **low tide**, caves, passages between the rocks and even a tunnel leading to another small hidden beach appear. One of the caves is known as **Captain Ivy’s Cave**: legend has it that a captain whose ship had shipwrecked while escaping pirates took refuge there for years. Up above, next to the cemetery, there are toilets and a bench with magnificent views of the entire bay.

On the right of the beach there are few small but nice to explore coves (very picturesque). Very nice rock formations and black rock. There is also a very narrow passage around 20m long where you can explore and expand the beach experience. As always around sea CHECK TIDE TIMETABLES so you're aware if sea is coming in or going out.

It can be a good surfing beach when shelter from strong onshore winds are blowing out other spots. Facilities include a car park, information centre and toilets.
