A lovely little village with a real smorgasbord of house types and styles. In keeping with the region, red sandstone is the mainstay, but there's also a thatched cottage and characterful farmhouses. The residents enjoy a superb view of Lakeland giant Blencathra. The famous Carlisle to Settle railway passes through the village. The station closed in 1970, however the station building has been restored and is now available for holiday bookings.
