The Eksjö Museum is both an art museum and a cultural history museum. It is located within the walls of a historic factory building on the Eksjöån River in the picturesque town center of Eksjö, one of the oldest timber-working towns in Sweden. The founding of the Eksjö Museum began with the donation of a very extensive collection of works by the famous artist and author Albert Engström (1869–1940). Through the images of Engström, a keen observer, the collection takes visitors back to a time of great upheaval in Swedish society. The second major permanent exhibition at the Eksjö Museum is dedicated to the history of the old timber-working town of Eksjö. The exhibits, documents, and pictures depict the town's more than 600-year history and some well-known personalities who are closely connected to Eksjö's history.

The church, located in the center of Eksjö's town center, was built from 1887 to 1889 according to plans by Johan Fredrik Åbom. Previous buildings had existed since the Middle Ages. Initially, a wooden church was built, later replaced by a stone building. The church tower, which still stands today, was added to a church dating from 1666 in 1784. In 1887, this previous structure, deemed inadequate, was demolished and replaced by the present building. The tower, through which the main entrance to the church is located, was retained. The nave has transepts. The baptismal font in the church dates from 1659. The altar and pulpit were built in 1698. The oldest of the church's twelve chandeliers dates back to 1608.
