A magnificent nature cinema with 20 box seats, a few meters west of/below the Zwercheck summit. Sensational views of the Arberkamm (the eight peaks over 1,000 meters high between Eck and Großer Arber), the Lamer Winkel, Hohenbogen, and the Großer and Kleiner Osser. A quiet place to take a breather, linger, and enjoy a snack. The panoramic panel provides information about the surrounding Bavarian Forest mountains.

The Zwercheck (Czech: Svaroh) is a 1,333-meter-high mountain in the Bohemian Forest (Künische Gebirge), a mountain ridge between Bavaria and Bohemia. The border between Bavaria in Germany and Bohemia in the Czech Republic runs along the ridge. On the broad, open, rounded summit are a meadow and a small rocky outcrop with a summit cross and good views across to the Großer Arber and the Kaitersberg, and down into the Lamer Winkel valley.

The Zwercheck High Trail runs along the German-Czech border, along the border ridge. The area is a capercaillie sanctuary, and it's best not to leave the trail. There are repeated, beautiful views of the Bavarian Forest mountains and the Bohemian Forest.

Small rock ridge with a cute summit cross, great views.

The sea of rocks to the "German" Zwercheck is best crossed from below. From above, as with all such "piles of stones", it is more confusing.

The region offers a variety of family-friendly hiking trails, ranging from easy strolls around the lakes to more moderate paths with gentle ascents. Many routes are designed to be accessible, allowing families to enjoy the unique glacial landscapes and dense forests. You'll find paths suitable for different ages and energy levels.
Yes, there are several easy circular routes perfect for families. For instance, the Spring and Stream in Šumava – Picnic Areas in CHKO Šumava loop offers a pleasant 6.7 km walk with minimal elevation gain, ideal for a relaxed family outing. Another option is the Černé Jezero (Black Lake) loop from Špičák, which is about 9.3 km and provides beautiful views of the lake.
The primary attractions are the two stunning glacial lakes: Černé Jezero (Black Lake), the largest and deepest glacial lake in Bohemia, and Čertovo Jezero (Devil's Lake). These lakes are exceptionally picturesque, surrounded by dense forests. You can also find viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the Šumava landscape.
While some paths around the lakes are relatively flat and wide, many trails in the reserve involve natural terrain, which might include roots, stones, or uneven surfaces. For families with strollers or very young toddlers, we recommend checking individual route details for surface conditions. Generally, paths directly around the main lakes are more accessible, but always be prepared for varied terrain.
Yes, dogs are generally welcome on the hiking trails in Národní Přírodní Rezervace Černé A Čertovo Jezero. However, it is crucial to keep them on a leash at all times to protect the local wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors. Always remember to clean up after your pet.
The best time for family hikes is typically from late spring to early autumn (May to October). During these months, the weather is generally mild, and the trails are clear of snow and ice, making for safer and more enjoyable conditions. The vibrant greenery of spring and the colorful foliage of autumn offer particularly beautiful scenery.
Many trails, including those leading to the lakes, often start from designated parking areas. A common starting point is Špičácké sedlo car park, which provides access to routes connecting both Černé and Čertovo Jezero. We recommend checking specific route descriptions for the most convenient parking options.
Public transport options are available, though they might be less frequent than in urban areas. Buses often serve the main villages and entry points to the reserve, such as Špičák. It's advisable to check local bus schedules in advance, especially when planning a family outing, to ensure timely connections to your chosen trailhead.

Absolutely! Beyond the beautiful lake shores, an additional walk from the lakes can lead to a lookout tower on top of Mt Špičák (1,202 m). This offers panoramic views of the surrounding Šumava landscape, which can be a rewarding experience for families looking for a slightly more challenging but still manageable ascent.
The terrain varies but generally includes well-maintained forest paths, gravel tracks, and some sections with natural surfaces like dirt, roots, and small stones. While many family-friendly routes are relatively flat, especially around the lakes, some may involve gentle inclines and descents. Sturdy footwear is always recommended.
