Near the village, a new Stations of the Cross with 14 stations was created leading to the ruins of a Marian chapel: figures sawn from thick planks - very contemporary, very exciting. For me, the most impressive: the crucifixion of Christ, depicted only with hammered-in nails.

The fountain dates back to the 19th century. Next to it are the ruins of the original bottling house. The village lies within the Kaiserwald Nature Reserve and is home to many protected animal and plant species. A moor-like landscape has developed in the immediate vicinity.

Virtually nothing reliable is known about the life of Saint George, to whom the church in Bečov was dedicated, but veneration of him stretches back to early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century. The legend of Saint George as the dragon slayer, however, is quite well known and widespread; he is often depicted – in paintings or statues – as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback. The feast day of the highly popular Saint George – he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom – in the calendar of saints is April 23rd.

If you take the red/white marked circular route around Petschau, you have to go through here. The river depth and flow speed are unclear. We turned back again 😁!
