A very beautiful area within the varied Kaltenkirchen Heide. The dune character merges into a large grassy area on the western side, and the southern part into a beautiful forest area characterized by conifers.

Many people find it unimaginable today, but the entire area used to be littered with countless buildings. These belonged to Kaltenkirchen airfield and were either the accommodation buildings for the staff, pilots and soldiers, or for the operation of the airfield. Almost all of the buildings were either destroyed in the bombing raids during the war or demolished after the war and this building, one of three, survived this wave of demolitions and also its subsequent use by the Bundeswehr as a training area.
