Tips from the Community

Wandeldingen 🌿
December 21, 2025, De Horsten Royal Estate

It's one of the largest estates in South Holland: De Horsten Estate. It's actually a merger of the three estates Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, and Ter Horst. De Horsten was founded in the mid-19th century and came into the hands of the Royal Family at the beginning of the 20th century when Wilhelmina purchased the estate. The original houses no longer exist, but several (out)buildings remain, including the former hunting lodge. You can now enjoy a cup of coffee or tea there. Most of De Horsten Estate is now open to walkers.

De Horsten is an old estate, and that's reflected everywhere, including impressive beech avenues. Some are located in places where few people walk these days.

At this small bridge a path through the forest starts, which can become very muddy in wet weather.

It looks special and you become curious about what is underneath those moss dunes.

Perhaps the most beautiful and photogenic part of the De Horsten Estate

The Seringenberg and the path to it are beautiful for walking. Once you reach the top, there is a beautiful view towards The Hague and the surrounding area. A major disadvantage of this part of the De Horsten Estate is the enormous noise pollution from the traffic on the Rijksstraatweg.

The characteristic moss hills on the peninsula. The hermitage and shell cave are located here.
