De Oude Buisse Heide is a historic estate of approximately 200 hectares in the municipality of Zundert, near Achtmaal. It is known for its unique combination of nature and cultural history, partly because it was the former summer residence of the artist couple Henriette and Richard Roland Holst. Cultural Heritage: The Roland Holst couple hosted famous guests here and found inspiration for their work. Henriette donated the area to Natuurmonumenten in 1945. Historic Buildings: On the estate, you will find the Buisse Hoeve, the Angorahoeve (the former residence), and Richard Roland Holst's Studio. Some of these properties are available for rent as holiday homes through Buitenleven Vakanties. Vincent van Gogh: The famous painter also developed his love for nature in this area.

De Moeren bij Achtmaal is a historic estate and nature reserve in the municipality of Zundert, North Brabant. The area is known for its rich history of peat extraction and its close connection to famous Dutch figures such as the poet Henriëtte Roland Holst. Location & Type: An extensive nature reserve consisting of forests, meadows, and fields, situated near the Belgian border. History: It was originally a raised bog area where peat was extracted on a large scale until the 18th century. The name 'Moeren' refers directly to this marshy peatland. It marks the beginning of a beautiful semi-paved path to and through West-Beersgat, once known as the forest of the Antwerp Public Centre for Social Welfare (OCMW). In the second half of the nineteenth century, the heathland on the poor sandy soils had to make way for coniferous forests. After the Second World War, several stands of Scots pine were replaced by Corsican pine, larch, and spruce to create a production forest and hunting area. West-Beersgat is a large forest of over 68 hectares in Wuustwezel, which we traverse entirely via a "Dream Link."
