The inn "De Keizer" (The Emperor) refers to the period of the Wechelse school of painting. In 1871, the inn came into the hands of the Verloy-Heylen family. Their only daughter, Philomena, married Cesar Smans, and from then on, De Keizer became a household name, especially in the artistic circles. It became a meeting place for painters, several of whom were members of the Wechelse school of painting. Jozef Simons found inspiration in De Keizer for his novel "Dientje Goris," for which a daughter of Cesar Smans served as the model. A.J. Heymans, Jaak Rosseels, and F. Crabeels transformed Wechelderzande into the "Flemish Barbizon." Thanks to them, the Wechelse landscape can be admired in numerous museums.

A beautiful, straight avenue lined with oak trees. It's a very peaceful place to stroll. However, be careful of the oak processionary caterpillar. The processionary caterpillar is typically most active between mid-April and mid-July. The nuisance period usually begins in early June, when the caterpillars release their irritating hairs. The nuisance is greatest during the summer months (June, July, and August).

Den Hert, along with the Joannahoeve on Vlimmersebaan, is the oldest stone building in Lille. The building, with its thick walls and large cellars, was successively called Den Herberg (The Inn), De Afspanning (The Inn), De Brouwerij (The Brewery), and Het Herenhuis (The Mansion). The building was built by Peeter Proost, a prominent gentleman who was ennobled by the Spanish king in 1642. In 1617, Peeter Proost sold Den Hert to his son Johan de Proost, builder of Hof d’Intere. In 1682, Johan de Proost's heirs sold Den Hert due to lack of funds. In 1753, the Vereet family of teachers acquired the building. Until 1948, the building was used as a brewery, inn, and manor house. Now, the Florik Home Brewery has moved in.
