Discovered today thanks to Herwig's highlight. When going up, don't be too quiet, just make some noise so they know someone is coming. Apparently I had gone upstairs too quietly because I caught a couple making love.

In 1414 the Solhof was mentioned as the seat of the lordship Heysselaer of Yckele. Around 1550 it was owned by Josse Van de Wouwere who had a house of plaisantie built, which was known as 't hoff van Ysselaer. The property has had many successive owners. In 1614 the Campomenoso family took office and in 1748 a new castle was built. The De Borrekens family, who took office in 1896, had the current castle built in neoclassical style at the end of the 19th century. This castle was demolished in 1992, rebuilt and converted into a hotel. The associated domain became a public park.

The castle mentioned in 1414 is now privately owned and serves as a hotel. Only the two turrets at the main entrance bear witness to the original castle. As silent witnesses to the picturesque Hofgracht, they indicate a rich medieval past. The current castle with the stables date from the second half of the 19th century. The main building, the depots, the moat and the round corner towers are protected village views. The castle is privately owned and serves as a hotel. The beautiful park, planted as an English garden, around the castle is owned by the municipality and is freely accessible to the public.
