The Evangelical St. Bartholomew's Church in the Altstadt district of Hachenburg (Kirchstraße 1, 57627 Hachenburg) is one of the oldest churches in the Westerwald. It is closely linked to the origins of the town and served as the common parish church for Hachenburg and Altstadt until 1656. Historical Highlights + Architecture: Construction began in the 12th/13th century. The house of worship was spared from major fire damage and is a Romanesque pillar basilica that was expanded in the 15th century. + Reformation: The church has been Protestant since the Counts of Sayn turned to Protestantism in 1560. + Furnishings: Inside, there is a late Romanesque baptismal font (with a bronze basin from 1965) and a richly decorated, blue-gold pulpit from 1697. + Albertine von Grün: A gravestone in front of the main entrance commemorates Goethe's close friend, who found her final resting place here in 1792. https://www.regionalgeschichte.net/westerwald/hachenburg/einzelaspekte/infos-zur-stadtgeschichte/bauten-und-oertlichkeiten-623/bartholomaeuskirche-101.html

The small town of Hachenburg, the "Pearl of the Westerwald," offers a truly idyllic setting. The pretty market square is a sight to behold. Lovingly maintained half-timbered houses stand protectively around the square, and in the center, the Lion Fountain with its golden, two-tailed lion catches your eye. There are a wide variety of dining options here, and you'll be spoiled for choice.
