Historic inn on the Kuchalb, named after the landlady Franziska Wagenblast, who died in 1920, commonly known as "Mutter Franzl", who in her rough but warm manner was a Swabian original. She is the subject of numerous anecdotes and indispensable to the history of the Schwäbischer Albverein. After a long renovation break, the inn was reopened at the beginning of 2025 under new (gastronomically renowned) management. Hearty dishes, regional specialties, and refreshing drinks await you in a cozy atmosphere, whether indoors in the rustic dining room or outdoors on the sunny terrace. Reservations are often advisable. Current pictures and opening hours at https://mutter-franzl.de/

The metal steps are part of the hiking trail through the wild and romantic Felsental valley, a section of the Lion's Trail "Geislinger Felsen-Tour." They are located at the end of the valley, where the valley narrows considerably and the rock faces rise steeply. The steps help you safely negotiate a particularly steep section.

Particularly striking is the contrast between the gently rolling hills of the Swabian Alb, the dense forests, and the open meadows, which transform into a sea of color in autumn.

The actual ascent to the Anwandfelsen is classified as difficult: Good basic fitness, surefootedness, and sturdy footwear are essential. Parts of the trail follow narrow, steep paths with an alpine character. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a fantastic panorama of Geislingen and the Fils Valley. The Anwandfelsen itself is a striking vantage point with unobstructed views over the wooded hills and the valley below – particularly impressive on a clear day or in the golden light of autumn.

The former lower Roggenmühle is today a horse farm and was connected as a supply post with Roggenstein Castle. Roggenstein Castle is a ruined rock castle on the Roggenstein, 570 m above sea level, above the Untere Roggenmühle near Geislingen an der Steige in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg. The castle was built between 1150 and 1170 by Konrad von Roggenstein and abandoned around 1250. In 1281, a Konrad Ruggestain, citizen of Geislingen, was mentioned. Source: Wikipedia
