Along the Ammer River lies a large moorland area, which is always worth stopping to enjoy the scenery. Pay attention to which side you walk along; you can enjoy the moorland on the left bank of the Ammer if you're coming from Ettal, or on the right bank of the Ammer if you're coming from Oberammergau. The other side is also very beautiful, but without the moorland.

Over four hundred years ago, a building was built in Ettal just for the monastery brewery. The location was chosen deliberately, and to this day, abundant water springs with the best water from the Ammergau Alps still grow there. The brewery is still in the same place today, with all the restrictions that come with old walls. The equipment, however, has not remained the same. Today, our monastery beer is brewed in a contemporary and modern way. Strictly according to the food standards that one can expect today. Modern equipment in an old vault.
