Buck’s Alley - a little bit of Devon in Hertfordshire, reminds me of some of the foothills around the edge of Dartmoor. Charming, but go easy on the descents, gravel and blind corners mean carrying too much speed could catch you out.

Stretch of road is also in shocking condition. Take extra care when riding southbound downhill UPDATE Aug 2025: no longer waterlogged (although the summer's been unusually dry for UK) but the road is still in appalling condition

The Hertfordshire village of Newgate Street is wonderfully located for woodland walks. With Northaw Great Woods to the southwest and Broxbourne Woods to the northeast, there's plenty for you to get your hiking boots stuck into. The village is home to two pubs and a Mediterranean restaurant.

Nice climb coming out of the woods and the finale of a section of tough rollers. You're rewarded with a good pub garden at the top of the climb!

Beautiful stretch of downhill coming when heading north, and a tough climb when coming back south. Great road surface in both directions.

Long steady uphill when travelling from the north to south. Not much traffic on this road either.
