The Artpark Gorge Trail offers a captivating journey along the Niagara River, showcasing its striking blue-green waters and dramatic gorge. You'll traverse varied terrain, from gravel and dirt paths to stone steps and even sections requiring climbing over large boulders. Keep an eye out for picturesque waterfalls and fascinating fossils embedded in the rocks as you explore this scenic route, which is part of the larger Niagara Gorge Trail System. It's a dynamic experience that blends natural beauty with a sense of adventure.

Planning your visit to the Artpark Gorge Trail is generally easy, with accessible parking at the Upper Level Parking Lot. However, be mindful of seasonal conditions; winter hikes often require microspikes due to ice, and recent rockfalls mean you should always be aware of your surroundings. The trail is especially popular in the fall for its vibrant leaf peeping opportunities, so consider visiting during that time for an extra visual treat.

This trail is notable for its unique geological history, as Artpark is located where the Niagara River's banks increase 200 feet in elevation, marking where the brink of Niagara Falls once stood almost 13,000 years ago. Beyond its natural allure, Artpark is also known for its performing and visual arts programs, including interactive public art installations that you can enjoy year-round. It's an easy 2.6-mile (4.3 km) hike with 214 feet (65 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 1 hour and 9 minutes, making it a great option for a quick, high-reward outing.

The Niagara Gorge Rim Trail offers a captivating journey along the edge of one of North America's most iconic natural wonders, providing continuous views of the stunning Niagara River and its dramatic gorge. You'll wind through hardwood groves, catch glimpses of the churning Niagara Whirlpool, and eventually be rewarded with spectacular vistas of Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls as you approach Niagara Falls State Park. The path itself is a mix of gravel, dirt, and pavement, making for a varied and engaging hike.

This moderate 9.4-mile (15.1 km) hiking route, with 505 feet (154 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 4 hours and 1 minute to complete. The trail connects three state parks, offering multiple access points and making it easy to tailor your adventure. While the rim trail is generally easy to follow, be prepared for more strenuous sections if you choose to explore connecting trails that descend into the gorge, which feature steep, rocky terrain and significant staircases.

What makes this trail truly stand out is its unparalleled perspective of the Niagara River and Falls, away from the busiest tourist areas. The gorge itself is rich in geological and historical significance, from its formation by the receding falls to its role in hydroelectric power. It's a versatile route, suitable for hiking, jogging, and even biking on paved sections, and serves as a gateway to more challenging explorations closer to the river's edge.

Great views and a lovely place to relax and fish. I met a few people fishing from the platforms, and the water reaches the bottom of the stairs near the parking lot. There are a lot of stairs here, so take your time and hold onto your little ones and your phones while taking photos on the platforms. In some places, the railings are so wide that your phone could fall through. There's also an elevator to take you there and back if you can't manage the stairs.

This place is simply fantastic. We loved it. The trails were a bit challenging, but it was a great experience. It's usually quiet here during the week. There's ample parking, so parking isn't a problem. The public restrooms were very clean. Don't forget to click on the map image, as it can be confusing otherwise. I don't recommend going with children, as the trails are very rocky and would be difficult for children. If you enjoy hiking and want to experience nature up close, this place is ideal. An absolute must for anyone looking for an adventurous hike.

A beautiful network of hiking trails in a forest in the heart of the Niagara Gorge. The park entrance is easily accessible by WEGO bus. The entire hike is beautiful and unlike any I've done before. A unique landscape. The trail can be a bit challenging, so be sure to bring water and sturdy shoes. A fantastic hike.

Beautiful hiking trails. Warning: This difficult trail is only for experienced hikers. You'll need to do a lot of climbing and be free from vertigo. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. Otherwise, enjoy the wonderful nature.

Beautiful views and a moderately difficult hike; definitely a worthwhile experience! However, the end of the trail was temporarily closed during our visit. We had to turn around and take a different route on the way back to Whirlpool State Park. Nevertheless, the walk was pleasant and scenic.

If you do the course in reverse direction, CCW, then the up hill gradient is more uniformly distributed.
