This 71-acre parcel of woodland was donated to the township of Cape Elizabeth. It's a popular spot for walking, jogging and biking, and contains a 1.7-mile multi-use loop trail. There are also some trails that were purpose-built for mountain biking, so watch out for fast-moving bikers on those.

Together, this little pond and the longer pond to the north — unsurprisingly called Long Pond — are called the Ferry Beach ponds, due to their proximity to the beach of the same name.

What is the best time of year to visit Scarborough Beach State Park with family?

Scarborough Beach State Park is enjoyable year-round, but the warmer months from late spring to early autumn are ideal for families. Another great option is the Winnick Woods Long Loop, which is nearly 6 km and provides a full circuit experience.

Can we expect to see any wildlife during our hike?

Yes, the park and surrounding areas are rich in wildlife. Along the coast, you might spot various seabirds, including endangered piping plovers in spring. Policies regarding dogs can vary by specific trail and time of year, especially in sensitive wildlife areas. It's generally recommended to keep dogs on a leash and check local signage or park regulations before heading out. You'll also find paths leading through lush coastal forests and along marshlands, providing diverse scenery and ecosystems to explore.
