No bikes allowed. The ferry man says it has been three years since no bikes allowed. Even though the sign only says no e-bike or tandem.

Only the ferry F 24 serves this stop. You cannot get on the F 23 here and from April to the beginning of May you have to take the long detour over the Triglaw Bridge to get to the Kruggasse pier on the other side and take the F 23 there.

Berlin and its surrounding Brandenburg region offer a wide variety of car-free gravel biking experiences. Our guide features nearly 75 routes specifically curated for traffic-free riding, ranging from easy loops to more challenging long-distance tours.
You'll find a diverse mix of terrain. Many routes traverse extensive forests like the Grunewald and Tegeler Forest, offering varied surfaces from compact gravel to forest paths. You'll also encounter paths alongside numerous lakes such as Müggelsee and Liepnitzsee, and some routes may include sections of the historic Berlin Wall Trail with its unique blend of urban green spaces and quiet countryside.
Yes, Berlin has several options suitable for families. While many routes are longer and rated as difficult, there are easier sections within larger networks, especially around the city's lakes and through parks like Tempelhofer Feld, which offer flat, car-free surfaces. Look for routes with shorter distances and minimal elevation gain for a more relaxed family outing.
Many of Berlin's natural areas and trails are dog-friendly, especially in the forests and along lake shores. However, regulations can vary by specific park or nature reserve. It's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in protected areas or where wildlife is present, and to check local signage for any restrictions.
Many routes offer scenic views and interesting stops. For panoramic outlooks, consider trails near Teufelsberg or Drachenberg in Grunewald. You can also discover historical sites like Charlottenburg Palace or Köpenick Palace, or enjoy natural beauty at highlights like the Viktoriapark Waterfall or the tranquil Erpe stream in the Erpe Valley.
Berlin has excellent public transport connections, and bikes are generally allowed on S-Bahn, U-Bahn, regional trains, and trams outside of peak hours, often requiring a separate ticket. This makes it easy to reach trailheads in areas like Grunewald, around Müggelsee, or towards Brandenburg. Always check the specific transport provider's rules for bike carriage.
Yes, many of Berlin's gravel routes are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. A great example is the Permanent East Around the Müggelsee – Berlin, which offers a scenic and car-free experience around one of Berlin's largest lakes. Another option is the Permanent South Circuit Berlin.
Spring and autumn are generally considered ideal, with pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery as foliage changes. Summer is also popular, especially for routes that pass by lakes, offering opportunities for a refreshing swim. Even in winter, many trails remain rideable, though some forest paths might be muddy or icy, and daylight hours are shorter.
The komoot community highly rates the gravel biking experience in Berlin, with an average score of 4.4 stars. Reviewers often praise the tranquility of the extensive forests, the beauty of the numerous lakes, and the unique blend of nature and historical significance found on routes like sections of the Berlin Wall Trail. The ability to escape city traffic and immerse oneself in nature is a recurring highlight.
Absolutely. For experienced riders seeking a longer challenge, routes like the Barnim Lakes and Heath Loop from Berlin offer significant distances and varied terrain. These routes often venture further into the Brandenburg region, providing expansive landscapes and a true sense of adventure away from traffic.
Many popular routes, especially those circling lakes or passing through towns, have cafes, restaurants, or beer gardens where you can refuel. For example, routes around Müggelsee or those connecting to areas like Grünau often feature establishments catering to cyclists. It's always a good idea to check your route beforehand for specific amenity points, especially on longer or more remote trails.
While many routes are well-known, exploring the less-traveled paths within larger forest areas like the Düppeler Forest or the Havelland region can lead to delightful discoveries. Look for routes that delve deeper into regional parks like Krämer Forst, where you might find quieter trails and unique lowland moor landscapes, offering a more secluded gravel biking experience.
