Garmisch-Partenkirchen station is a railway junction in southern Bavaria. It lies on the Mittenwald Railway, the Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen-Innsbruck line, and the Außerfern Railway via Reutte to Kempten in the Allgäu region. All lines are electrified. Unfortunately, the station has lost its importance. It has been completely disconnected from long-distance services and now serves only as a hub for local trains. Railway history was made on December 12, 1995, when a regional express train collided head-on with the Glass Train 491 001. One person was killed, 51 were injured, and the Glass Train was so badly damaged that it could not be repaired.

The locomotive of the old Zugspitze Railway has been preserved here - it's nice to be able to see it up close.
