L'Auberge de Castille is located in Piazza di Castiglia, near the bastion of St. James, the Malta Stock Exchange and the Upper Barrakka Gardens, and stands next to the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, from which it is separated by Merchants Street. The southeastern facade overlooks Saint Paul Street and Floriana, dominating the city of Valletta and the Grand Harbour area. The Spanish knights were responsible for defending the nearby bastion of St. James, they were the patrons of the church of St. James the Great in Merchants Street and of the Chapel of St. James the Great within St. John's Co-Cathedral. Their commander was traditionally the Grand Master of the Order. Today the auberge houses the offices of the Prime Minister of Malta, and the name Castile (Kastilja in Maltese) is often used as a metonym for the Prime Minister's office. Source: Wikipedia
