The Schlosshotel Rettershof in Kelkheim near Frankfurt is a historic romantic hotel in the English Tudor style, idyllically situated in the Taunus Nature Park. The complex offers a total of 35 rooms, with a choice between modern accommodations in the extension and three stately castle rooms in the historic main building. Culinary delights are provided by the RETTER's restaurant, which serves upscale regional cuisine and features a wine cellar and a fireplace lounge. During the warmer months, an outdoor beach club complements the gastronomic offer. The hotel is also a well-known venue for events, especially weddings, as civil ceremonies are possible directly in the castle. For relaxation, there is an in-house sauna and cooperations with a nearby thermal spa. Drivers benefit from free parking spaces and available e-charging stations directly on the premises.

My personal highlight of today's tour through new areas! The renaturalized Sulzbach stream in the tranquil park (despite being in the heart of Frankfurt and adjacent to the A66 motorway) is truly inviting and perfect for relaxing and taking a breather. It's always amazing what hidden gems Frankfurt has to offer!

Rettershof is a historic estate in the Fischbach district of Kelkheim, now a popular local recreation and excursion destination offering restaurants, equestrian activities, nature, and events. Originally, the property was founded in 1146 as the Premonstratensian Retters Monastery; after its dissolution in 1559, it developed into an agricultural estate with various owners. In the 19th century, the Englishman Frederik Arnold Rodewald acquired the estate and had a grand manor house built in the English Tudor style between 1884 and 1885. This building still forms the heart of the complex and has been owned by the city of Kelkheim since the early 1980s. Today, Rettershof comprises: • the Rettershof Castle Hotel with its historic charm, • the country inn "Zum fröhlichen Landmann" (The Merry Farmer), • a modern equestrian center with an indoor riding arena and paddocks, • expansive meadows, orchards, and woodlands. Rettershof also serves as a venue for markets, festivals, concerts, and harvest and cultural events, attracting many visitors from the region. In short: Rettershof combines medieval monastery and estate history with a modern recreational and cultural landscape – ideal for walks, horseback riding, events, and excursions in the Taunus region.

Historic boundary stones along the Limes in Nassau-Hesse, often part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, mark not only the ancient Roman border, but also later historical border demarcations (e.g., between the County of Nassau and the Archbishopric of Mainz) that were based on the Limes; they are well preserved and visible along the way, such as the one in the Kröftel area, which shows the Mainz Wheel (Roman side) and the Nassau Lion (Germanic side), and offer impressive insights into the history of the Limes, often accessible via hiking trails such as the Limes Circular Trail.

Many of you probably know the Gimbach estate primarily as a popular destination for day trips, complete with a fantastic playground, a tractor for climbing, horses, paddocks, and orchards. But the Gimbach estate is much more than that. It's a historically significant site in Kelkheim, likely the location of the first church in what is now the town of Kelkheim. The name Gimbach comes from the word "Gyn," derived from the male name "Ginno." The Gynnenbach stream, which originates in the Johannesborn spring about 400 meters south of the Gimbach estate, was first documented in 1287 in connection with a chapel dedicated to St. John. Since the "Roteldisstein," a 7th-century gravestone, was discovered at this location in 1868—600 years later—it is believed that a church building with a churchyard existed there as early as the Merovingian period. It was likely an early medieval baptismal church dedicated to John the Baptist.

It is a joy to see that the canalized Nidda is slowly regaining some "freedom."
