Boatman's mast of the Hol fast e.V. boatman's association. The boatman's mast is an attraction on the waterway junction adventure trail. In February 1949, 12 inland boatmen from Minden and the surrounding area founded the association. -They were mainly employed by the federal towing company or in the Weser shipping company. The name "Hol fast" was chosen as a symbol of holding on to traditions, to our profession and to the camaraderie among colleagues. The name "Hol fast" was chosen as a symbol of holding on to traditions, to our profession and to the camaraderie among colleagues. Tugboating on the Weser and the canals was in full bloom. The canal bridge and the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial at the Porta were chosen as symbols for the association's flag. The first chairman was Fridolin Grote. -The first association flag was ceremoniously consecrated in 1953. -In 1957, the mast system at the intersection of the Mittelland Canal and the Schachtschleuse was ceremoniously inaugurated (Source: https://www.teutoburgerwald.de/region/ausflugsziele

The Minden Weser Lock is an economy lock at the Minden waterway junction. It supplements the Minden shaft lock, which is too small for large motor freight vessels. The port of Bremen has also gained direct access to the Mittelland Canal via this larger lock for this type of ship. The new lock is located to the east, parallel to the shaft lock. The architectural design, with its functional style, does not incorporate any elements of the old shaft lock. Towers at the lower head are not necessary because the new lock has a stem gate against the downstream water (pull segment gate against the upstream water). The old shaft lock has these towers because the counterweights of the lifting gate are located there. (SOURCE:https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weserschleuse_Minden)
