Way of the Book – Hike in the footsteps of the Bible smugglers in Austria
definitely climb the keep and enjoy the view! If you are afraid of heights, decide for yourself, looking up helps. Worth seeing is the old courthouse linden tree.

In the 1980s, there was a small drag lift here that served this slope as a ski area. Nowadays, there is hardly any snow here in winter, so only the memory remains.

This spot was - given the vegetation - difficult to find. You have to go left past the wooden hut (by the small ponds), then about 30m sharply back to the right (in the steep slope where the small stream flows and where you can actually already see the forest road). The path then continues upwards and actually joins the upper forest road, which you can then easily go down (left, turn downwards) to the actual forest road.

The descent to Hilkering is (fortunately) marked as a hiking trail here. However, it is not always easy to find, as it is probably only used by few people.

This small slope is a popular spot for sledding in winter. I was also there 50 years ago and of course with my daughter over 20 years ago.

Accessible via hiking trails from the north and east sides. Signs from the B130 (Nibelungenstraße) guide the way. The outer bailey has been closed since 2015, and the inner bailey is only accessible during certain times. A viewing platform on the keep offers a sweeping view of the Eferding Basin.
