The Žilina Reservoir has also become a popular recreational spot in Žilina. It is easily accessible by car or public transport. Visitor parking is located on the right side of the reservoir. This part of the project includes numerous sports facilities open to the public, such as a skatepark, beach volleyball court, children's trampoline, lockers for roller skaters and volleyball players, and a God Mat boat rental. In summer, the area also offers favorable conditions for numerous water sports. A cycling trail runs through here, leading from Budatín through Varín to Strečno.

The Žilina Dam was built primarily for electricity generation and to supply industrial plants in Žilina with process water. The water depth is approximately 2 m where the Váh River flows into the reservoir, 10 m in the middle at the pedestrian bridge between the municipalities of Mojš and Mojšová Lúčka, and approximately 18 m at the Žilina dam. The entire project is managed and operated by Vodohospodárska stavba Bratislava, š.p.
