The church was perhaps built from the remains of the castle destroyed in 1291. A church was first documented in 1436. The church was temporarily Protestant and returned to Catholic ownership in 1587. Severe fire damage occurred in 1683 and 1745. In 1959/1960, the church was expanded by architect Robert Kramreiter. It was restored in 1963.
