Pertisau first appeared in documents in the 14th century. The town was popular with the ruling Habsburgs because of its beautiful location. Emperor Maximilian I built an imperial hostel in the form of a prince's house so that he could relax, fish in the lake and hunt in the surrounding forests. In the middle of the 19th century, the town became increasingly attractive to foreign visitors and a tourist infrastructure developed, such as the boat line to Buchau, Seespitz, Gaisalm, Achenseehof and Scholastika, which is still active today.
