Unfortunately, the bridge has a high step and ends in a meadow... It's better to continue along the main road and then turn left...

We used the Thunderbike Roadhouse as a base (start and finish) for our lovely bike tour to the Rhine in Bislich. An exceptionally rich and varied breakfast buffet gave us a more than good basis for the tour. Sufficient, competent and friendly staff looked after us well! After the tour we replenished our fluid deficit 😉🍻 Reservations are highly recommended. A real recommendation from us 👍👍👍

A parish church in Hamminkeln was already mentioned as belonging to the Xanten Monastery in the years 1154 and 1172. Their origins date back to the 10th century. The oldest parts of the church are made of tuff stone and built in Romanesque and then Gothic style. Roman brick was also used in the oldest parts, coming from a field-fired brick factory of the Roman Legion on the Rhine. A stone was found with the stamp of Legio XXII Primigenia. The Gothic hall church, which still marks the center of Hamminkeln today, was built at the beginning of the 15th century. Before the Reformation, a fresco of Saint Christopher was created around 1450. The parish archives start with documents from 1522. Between 1609 and 1624 the church was used by both Lutherans and Reformed Christians.

This is the Hamminkeln Protestant Church, also called the “White Church”. The church is a simple two-aisled tuff building 22.8 meters long and 7 meters wide. The natural stone walls of the pointed arch windows and entrances are excluded from their white exterior plaster. A west tower with an octagonal, slated pyramid helmet has pointed arched sound hatches and church clocks at the level of the bell chamber on the upper floor. The naves are also covered with slate. Two eight-sided pillars with a simple base separate the main nave from the northern aisle. The vault ribs of the main nave rest on polygonal consoles, each with a head underneath. In the choir the ribs rest on sculptured leaf capitals. A parish church in Hamminkeln was already mentioned in the years 1154 and 1172 as belonging to the Xanten monastery.
