Unfortunately, the wading pool was empty at the end of April. We would have loved to cool our feet. But it's beautifully situated with a view of the Strudelbach stream. There are plenty of benches for a break. Children can let off steam on the small playground.

Due to increasing bombing of German armaments facilities, the construction of fighter aircraft was to be relocated to bomb-proof production facilities. These included the old motorway tunnel near Lemberg, the Kochendorf salt mine near Heilbronn, and the abandoned Baresel quarry in Vaihingen an der Enz. Parts for Messerschmitt AG's jet aircraft were to be manufactured here. This quarry had already been used for tests with the V1 cruise missile in 1942. Measuring 240 by 100 meters – enclosed on all sides – and with a railway siding, this location was particularly suitable. The planned factory was to have six floors and be covered with a reinforced concrete ceiling. The Todt Organization, a special unit for the construction of military structures, was commissioned to build this bunker, which was codenamed 'Stoffel'. For this purpose, approximately 1,500 foreign and forced laborers came to Vaihingen, and in August, approximately 2,200 Jewish concentration camp prisoners from occupied Poland arrived. Due to the approaching front and air raids, construction was halted at the end of October 1944. Concentration camp prisoners able to work were transferred to other armament projects. Vaihingen concentration camp became a hospital or death camp for prisoners unable to work from other labor camps. The construction site was filled in the 1950s.
