🐑🌾☁️ This is probably the most North German image imaginable! The "woolly lawnmowers" belong to the dike like the wind to the sea. Without them, the coast would not only look different, it would also be far less safe.

Greetsiel is always worth a day trip. A lovely little harbor with plenty of fishing boats, if you're not out at sea. Lovely restaurants and cafés. Plenty of small shops for shopping. Highlights include the Mühlencafé in one of the two windmills and a short detour to the Otto Lighthouse in Pilsum.

Karl Wenholt was head of the construction office for coastal protection and land reclamation in Norden until 1965. In this role, he was responsible for land reclamation on the Leybucht in what was then the Norden district. He then held the honorary position of dike judge (board member) at the Norden dike authority until his death. The memorial stone stands on the dike in Westermarsch II, roughly at the point where the dike road bends to the east north of the Waterwarfer Weg. It was erected after the dike reinforcement was completed in the late 1970s at the suggestion of his successor Theodor Oldewurtel.
