In the vine is life The Latin expression "In vite vita" means "In the vine is life". This saying symbolizes the dependence of life on a greater, life-giving source, often with the biblical-Christian symbolism of the vine, which stands for life and fertility. It emphasizes the importance of connection and being rooted in life.

Beautiful little castle, which a Bavarian king, fond of the Palatinate, had built as a summer residence in the vineyards above Roth near Riedburg. Great eye-catcher and a popular photo motif.

"The wayside cross known as the Five Wounds Cross stands in the field along Ackerbrückenweg in Maikammer. Its location is directly on the border with the municipality of St. Martin. It was donated in 1733 by Tobias Benedikt Schneider (born January 11, 1701), a cooper from St. Martin who owned property in Maikammer. The cross is made of red sandstone. At the top of the cross is an inscription in the form of a stylized parchment scroll with the inscription: INRI = Iesus Nazarenus Rex Judaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The cross shaft and the ends of the crossbeams terminate in a trefoil shape. Three-leaf clovers are interpreted as a symbol of the Trinity. They represent God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Crosses of this type are also called "Lazarus Crosses." In front of the Alsterweiler Chapel are interesting information panels about Alsterweiler, its inhabitants (known locally as "Alsterweiler Mucker"), and its sights. To the right behind the chapel (and therefore easily overlooked) stands a large mission cross from 1852 with the following inscription: "In remembrance of the mission held in the parish church of Maikammer by the Reverend Fathers of the Society of Jesus Roder and Zeil from June 27 to July 11, 1852." ``` “A mission cross [= memorial] commemorates the so-called popular missions of earlier times. Until the 19th century, groups of two or three priests from different orders traveled from parish to parish. They often stayed for several days or even weeks (in Maikammer with Alsterweiler, from June 27 to July 11, 1852) with the aim of renewing and converting the Christian people. This type of popular conversion was probably initiated by the Jesuits in the 18th century. [...] (Matthias C.S. Dreyer, 2018)” Source (quoted verbatim): https://www.kuladig.de/Objektansicht/KLD-286709 ```

The Hund winery in Venningen, are dedicated winemakers who produce the first new wine of the year from the Solaris and Ortega grape varieties. The winery is a hotspot for cyclists. People from all over gather in the winegrowers' courtyard to sample the new wines. A wide selection of regional dishes is served through the kitchen window. Friendly service is provided, and everything is very reasonably priced.

I love this trail – especially at sunrise… but actually even more so just before sunset. Then, golden light hangs over the vines, and the view of the Haardt mountain range is simply magical. It's a short stretch, but full of atmosphere. Ideal for catching your breath, stretching your legs, and recharging your batteries before tackling one of the bigger climbs. For me, it's a little haven of peace on many long tours. And a pleasure every time!
