The Wuschewier School and Prayer House, built in 1764, is a simple, multifunctional half-timbered building that combined a prayer hall, classroom, and teacher's apartment. Its exterior is barely distinguishable from the surrounding residential buildings. After extensive renovations with funding, including from the Hermann Reemtsma Foundation, the listed building was ceremoniously rededicated in 1997 and has also housed a restored organ since 1998. The Wuschewier School and Prayer House Association (Förderverein Schul- und Bethaus Wuschewier e.V.) is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of the listed building. Guided tours are available upon request: https://bethaus-wuschewier.de/#intro.

You could drive past. But you don't. Because this bench, on the dike near Czelin, is more than just wood on concrete. It is a promise: of expanse, wind, and water. Anyone who sits down here has nothing to do – and that's precisely the point. Your gaze wanders over the reeds swaying in the Oder like thoughts half asleep. Perhaps a boat chugs by. Perhaps just a dragonfly. The inscription on the backrest – "Orning-Gross" – seems like a final greeting or a silent thank you to those who made this place possible. You sit, you are silent, you marvel: at so much peace. And then you drive on, as if you had become lighter.

Anyone arriving by bike briefly thinks they've landed on a film set. A tall tower, old railway carriages on the bank, sun loungers dotted around the place – and behind it: the Oder, calm and clear as a poem. Stay overnight? Absolutely. But you should call first: for a spot at the top. A deluxe view – just without an elevator. Those who carry luggage also carry stories. And at the top, they'll be rewarded with a view that silently takes your breath away. The food? There's food – but not à la carte. Rather, it's a surprise. One for everyone, freshly cooked and of the quality you'd hope for but rarely get. If you're lucky, you'll sit by the water in the evening, a glass in hand, your bike leaning against the wall, and you'll wonder if you'll ever want to go back to a regular hotel. Across the street, the Café im Turm – an insider tip, like something out of a travel guide that only insiders are allowed to read. A spiral staircase leads up, narrow and slightly vertigo-inducing. Upstairs: a room with a panoramic view. One floor higher: tables. At the very top: a vacation apartment for the brave with heart and wanderlust.

In the heart of the Oderbruch region of Brandenburg, where the wind still takes its time, between half-timbered houses, furrowed fields, and memories, it rises: the Sietzing Craftsmen's Post. Not a modern stele, not a digital monument – but a wooden panorama of past skills. Twelve small figures made of tin and paint – the wheelwright, the milkmaid, the blacksmith, the carpenter – all gathered in this quiet place, as if they wanted to show themselves once more before disappearing completely. You reach Sietzing by bike on one of Brandenburg's quieter routes. The fields are wide, the villages small, the silence vast. And then you stand there, looking at this post, almost touching in its simplicity – and feel that it says more than many memorial plaques. It shows what once held the world together: hands, work, skill. A world before automation, before the cloud, before the click. Just behind it lies the half-timbered church from 1803, simple and beautiful like the village itself. No pomp, no pose – but history in every stone. The village church belongs to the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, embedded in what was once called a "community" – not as an administrative unit, but as a way of life. Sietzing is not a destination for selfie-seekers. But it is a place where you lose track of time for a moment – and perhaps gain another. Anyone who gets off their bike here hears more than just birdsong. You can hear the old voices, too, quiet and friendly, as if they wanted to say: We were there. And you are still here. Connect with each other.

Anyone pedaling along this dike path isn't just leaving a place—they're changing their pace. Because here, where the Oder winds through the flat land like a silent thought, cycling begins to flow. No pushing, no shouting, no "Beware of oncoming traffic"—just you, the wind, the river, and maybe a few sheep looking curiously but saying nothing. On the German side, the border post; on the Polish side, the same blue sky. The Oder-Neisse Cycle Path isn't a path for those in a hurry. Those who cycle along it shouldn't consider the chirping of larks a distraction, but an invitation. The border? Visible—yes. But it acts like a silent contract with the landscape: You're allowed through here. But only if you listen. If you see. If you feel what a gift it is—this peace between two countries that were once hostile to each other and can now remain silent together. Past Oder floodplains, vast wetlands, small villages with bell towers and vegetable gardens, the path leads through a no-man's-land full of stories. Sometimes flat like water in a calm, sometimes slightly hilly when the dam rises. Sometimes the wind pushes, sometimes it slows – but that doesn't matter. Because the path carries you. If you cycle here, you should keep an eye not only on the speedometer, but also on the grass, which moves in the light as if it were secretly dancing. And perhaps at some point you'll realize: The real border doesn't run between states, but between "I must" and "I may." And on this dyke, you're allowed to just be.

Sanitary facilities (no shower) in the loading tower. Great atmosphere, with frog croaking at night 😁. There's also a tower café and a restaurant in the engine room.
