The statue of Caspar David Friedrich at Cape Arkona is an impressive memorial honoring the famous Romantic painter—and a must-see for art and nature lovers. It was ceremoniously unveiled in 2024 on the occasion of his 250th birthday and depicts Friedrich in a pensive pose, gazing out over the Baltic Sea—in the spirit of his landscape paintings. The location, between the beacon tower and the fishing village of Vitt, was not chosen by chance: Friedrich visited Rügen several times and drew Cape Arkona from various perspectives. The bronze sculpture stands on a boulder and commemorates his deep connection to the North German coastal landscape.
