The chapel is located not far from Lake Constance, north of the B33 highway between Stetten and Ittendorf, and in close proximity to two farms. The late Gothic structure may have had a Romanesque predecessor and appears considerably older than it actually is. The chapel was consecrated in 1521. Old red chalk drawings, presumably made by pilgrims, adorn the chapel walls.
