The Rathausplatz in Frankenthal is the central heart of the city and is characterized by two churches standing directly next to each other. The baroque Dreifaltigkeitskirche Frankenthal and the more modern katholische St. Dreifaltigkeit Frankenthal form an unusual architectural ensemble.

The Rathausplatz in Frankenthal (Pfalz) is the historical center of the city. Particularly striking are the two churches: the baroque Dreifaltigkeitskirche and the neo-Gothic St.-Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Frankenthal). Together they give the square a distinctive cityscape and reflect the religious and architectural diversity of Frankenthal.

In 2025, the old wooden bridge, which was supposedly dilapidated, was replaced by a new metal bridge; I found the old wooden bridge much nicer than the new one.

The church in the old center of Neckarau looks a bit like a Baroque church from the outside. And indeed it was, until its reconstruction after World War II. Today, the interior is completely different. And that's not the only reason it's worth seeing. In the chancel, there are very well-made information panels about the church's history. Information about the church can be found here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Jakobus-Kirche_(Mannheim)

The "History of Old Neckarau" association has established itself in the old village center of Neckarau, next to the former public baths. From the outside, one can admire stone tombs and Roman-era artifacts. Information about the association can be found here: https://verein-geschichte-alt-neckarau.de/

The administrative building comprises three floors, which initially housed meeting rooms, card index rooms, and filing facilities for both the insurance company and the arbitration court located there. Apartments for the board of directors and the caretaker were also built on the second floor. The entrance portal on Maximilianstrasse features the Palatia as a niche figure and bore the Bavarian coat of arms until World War II. The facade is adorned with ornamentation, with the central section of the building and the third floor set back. This design is typical of Viennese aristocratic palaces of the Neo-Baroque period. The allegorical figures on pedestals on the third floor represent youth and diligence, industry, agriculture and farming, and old age. These were crafted from French Savonnières stone by the sculptor Gustav Adolf Bernd. The mansard roof is topped with a gable and balcony facing the cathedral.

The Worm Gate was built from 1770 to 1772. "Under Elector Carl Theodor, Frankenthal experienced a period of prosperity that lasted until the French Revolution. The Elector renewed the city fortifications by expanding the circular wall and erecting new, magnificent gates resembling triumphal arches. [...] The northern gable displays Carl Theodor's coat of arms. On the south side [toward the pedestrian zone], allegorical depictions of War and Peace can be seen. In the gable, there is a medallion with the Elector's portrait." - Source (quoted verbatim): Metal plaque next to the Worm Gate
