Alytus is one of the greenest cities in Lithuania. There are four parks in the city, and the Vidzgiris Botanical Reserve is located on its territory. In the Youth Park, the City Garden and the Resort Park (two of them are in the center of Alytus), you can not only have fun, but also watch the frolicking squirrels. If you don’t manage to meet live squirrels, don’t be too upset. There are bronze sculptures of these animals in Alytus. In the Old Town Square, near the book exchange house, a bronze squirrel sits proudly on a bench with a book on which it is written “A book is a good way to surpass yesterday’s self.” Stroking this cute little animal gives you an indescribable desire to read books. The author of the sculpture is M. Zavadskis.

The old sculpture "Lily Flower", authored by sculptor Vladas Kančiauskas, was erected in Alytus in 1981, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the city of Alytus. The sculpture, which adorned the city for several decades, was dismantled when the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge began. Sculptor V. Kančiauskas prepared a new project and presented a slightly different "Lily Flower" sculpture - a hollow, "lighter" one, matching the bridge structures, but visually repeating the old sculpture.

While traveling along the former embankment towards the highest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Lithuania, tourists are greeted by a surprise – two carriages of the former train “M 23”. In one there is a cozy café with a special dessert from the interwar Alytus resort, which even ladies from Kaunas came to taste. In the other there is a museum of the history of the former Alytus region railway.

The monument was built in 1929. The author of the impressive 13-meter-high monument (9-meter pedestal and 4-meter trumpeting angel) is Antanas Aleksandravičius. It is said that the sculptor persuaded a young gymnasium teacher to pose for him. By the way, the sculptor himself married when he was almost 60, raised a son and a daughter. The Angel of Freedom is a sign of respect and remembrance for those who died for the independence of Lithuania. The monument has had to withstand several tests of nature and history: in 1934, the sculpture collapsed after being struck by lightning (it was restored three years later), and in the 1950s it was demolished for political reasons. In 1991, sculptor Jonas Meškelevičius restored the sculpture of the Angel of Freedom, and sculptor Jonas Blažaitis restored the bas-reliefs of the monument.
