The Avakas Gorge is a true natural spectacle - and with sunshine, a spectacle of colors too - those who don't want to go "in-out" can "follow" the stream bed to the end (Attention: the "path" is not a path, but free route finding, and regularly crosses the watercourse) and ascend on unmarked trails to the right onto the plateau and then always "along the rim" until the track that leads down again to the P on the right! Attention, it can get very hot (don't forget to drink!)

The ideal times for family hiking in Paphos are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons, temperatures are mild, and the natural scenery is vibrant. While possible, summer hiking can be very hot, so it's best to stick to early mornings or late afternoons and choose shaded routes.
Yes, Paphos has several enjoyable circular walks. For a gentle coastal experience, consider the Paphos Waterfront Promenade, which offers easy, flat terrain. Many of the nature trails in the Akamas Peninsula, such as the Aphrodite and Adonis Trails, also offer circular options, though some sections may be more challenging for very young children.
Absolutely! Many family-friendly trails in Paphos boast stunning views. For panoramic vistas of the Akamas Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea, routes like the Moutti tis Sotiras Viewpoint loop from Bath of Aphrodite are excellent choices. The Smigies Nature Trail also offers breathtaking views of Chrysochous Bay and the Lara coast.
Paphos is rich in history and natural beauty. Along various trails, you can discover fascinating landmarks. For instance, the Akamas Peninsula trails are near the legendary Aphrodite's Baths. You might also encounter ancient ruins or impressive geological formations like those found in Avakas Gorge. The Tombs of the Kings are also a notable historical site in the region.
Many trails in Paphos are dog-friendly, especially those in less protected areas. However, it's always best to check specific regulations for nature reserves or national parks like the Akamas Peninsula, as some areas might have restrictions or require dogs to be on a leash. Always ensure your dog is well-behaved and pick up after them.
The terrain varies significantly across Paphos. Coastal paths like the Paphos Waterfront Promenade are generally flat and paved. Inland, you'll find trails through pine and juniper forests, sometimes with rocky or uneven paths, especially in areas like the Akamas Peninsula. Some routes, particularly those leading to viewpoints, may involve moderate ascents.
While not directly within the Paphos family-friendly routes listed in this guide, the wider Paphos region and nearby Troodos Mountains are home to beautiful waterfalls. The Caledonia Waterfall Trail in the Troodos Mountains, for example, leads to one of Cyprus's tallest waterfalls and is a popular, scenic linear hike.
The komoot community highly rates the family-friendly trails in Paphos, with an average score of 4.5 stars. Reviewers often praise the stunning coastal views, the diverse natural landscapes, and the accessibility of many routes for different age groups. The clear signage and well-maintained paths are also frequently highlighted.
For toddlers and very young children, shorter and flatter routes are ideal. The Paphos Waterfront Promenade is an excellent choice, being mostly paved and offering easy access. Some shorter loops of nature trails, like the 1.5 km option on the Smigies Nature Trail, can also be suitable, depending on the child's stamina and the terrain.
Many popular trailheads, especially in the Akamas Peninsula and near Paphos town, offer designated parking areas. While not every trailhead will have a cafe directly adjacent, you'll often find amenities in nearby villages or towns. For example, trails starting near the Baths of Aphrodite have facilities nearby, and the Paphos Waterfront Promenade is surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
