The monastery was originally built as a castle in the 16th century and later converted into a monastery by Pauline monks. The monastery church is famous for its 18th-century frescoes by the painter Anton Lerchinger. The monastery houses one of the oldest monastic pharmacies in Europe, still preserved in its original condition. The monks in Olimje are also known for cultivating medicinal herbs and producing natural remedies.

Olimje Friars Minor Conventual Monastery is a beautiful former castle, next to the Church of the Assumption. In the monastery there's an old monastic pharmacy, where you can buy all kind of great herbal teas, tinctures and other remedies, made from the plants that monks grow and gather themselves.
