This majestic villa on the banks of the Scheldt was built at the beginning of the 20th century (1903-1905) by order of Eugène Burm, who ran a shipyard here from 1876 to 1900. The Burm family had previously had a construction company here. After the shipyard closed down in 1900, E. Burm set up a large timber merchant, specialising in timber for railway construction, telephone and telegraphy. He had a villa and a large service building built on the site, including an office for the timber merchant. After Eugène Burm died in 1933, the trading activity here was stopped. The detached villa has an extensive garden in which a number of company buildings remain. The garden is enclosed on the street by a long brick wall, divided by lesenes, and a striking iron gate in art nouveau style between sandstone posts. Source: Inventory of Immovable Heritage
