July 11, 2026, Walkmühle Ohrensen

Wonderful place to linger and relax. The water is very shallow, so the children can splash wonderfully there while the rest of the group lingers at the round table and enjoys what has happened. A great cycling and hiking route leads here to the Walkmühle. The Walkmühle is located in the Ohrensen district; it is a monument of Ohrensen. Ohrensen itself is a district of the municipality of Bargstedt in the district of Stade, Lower Saxony. It is one of the last fulling mills in Lower Saxony. Today it is used as a youth facility by the scouts. A visit is both recommended and interesting 👍🏼.

The park in the town center offers beautiful natural surroundings and inviting park benches for relaxation. The paths are accessible and easy to walk. Accessible from Stade or Zeven, the parking lot is located at the monastery park and museum, as well as opposite the shopping center. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 3 pm to 6 pm (3 pm to 5 pm from October to March). On Sundays and public holidays, it is also open from 10 am to 12 pm. In the 1980s, archaeologists unearthed the foundations of the former Benedictine monastery, which was one of the intellectual centers of power in Northern Germany from 1102 to 1647. During the Middle Ages and the early modern period, there were only a few monasteries directly subordinate to the Pope. Harsefeld Monastery was one of them. However, a large part of the monastery complex fell into disrepair in the post-monastic period.

The bridge in the Auental valley is a beautiful sight. Information signs there provide details about the birdlife in the valley. With a bit of luck, you might even spot deer in the thicket. The surrounding area is beautifully wild and overgrown. Wild orchids in bloom create a vibrant and colorful scene 😊. Even raspberry bushes grow along the path. A hike here is highly recommended and absolutely stunning ☀️.

The Rosenborn spring in Harsefeld is a historic spring in a spring-rich area that was already used for eight fishponds during the time of Harsefeld Abbey (1100-1648). These ponds later silted up. The spring itself was revived around 1930 with a waterwheel and fountain, becoming a tourist attraction. The water is no longer potable today. After a period of neglect, the area of the abbey ponds and the spring was restored around 2009 as part of an upgrade project, so that the old spring flows again. The spring has historical significance; the name "Rosenborn" dates back to the medieval use of the area when monks from the abbey created ponds there. The spring has become a popular destination, marked by a distinctive stone from 1931 that can still be seen today. A wonderful hiking and cycling trail leads along here amidst beautiful nature 💚. A visit is highly recommended 👍🏼.
