The larger-than-life statue stands on a prismatic, slightly conical pedestal. The monarch wears a flowing gown, a cloak over his shoulders, and holds a charter and a vine in his hands – the statue depicts Charles IV as a great patron of Czech viticulture. The work dates from 1840 and was commissioned by the knight Jan Norbert Gemerich von Neuberk and the sculptor Josef Maxa. In 1879, the statue was moved from Neuberk Castle to the former civic school, and in 1929 to its current location.
