Around the middle of the 19th century, there was even talk of writing off Chillon Castle for demolition and using the stones in the construction of the railway. However, the landscape, the grand castle, and the romantic stories of the former prisoners had long captivated many, and interest in the monument's outstanding historical significance was also awakening. And so, more and more travelers visited the castle, which, from the 1820s onward, could also be viewed from the new steamships on Lake Geneva. While Rousseau had already chosen the castle as the setting for a key scene in his 1761 epistolary novel Julie ou la Nouvelle Héloïse, other writers, such as Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas, were inspired by the place, in addition to Lord Byron. The café next to the castle is now called "Byron." The French painter Gustave Courbet depicted Chillon several times during his stay on Lake Geneva, and Eugène Delacroix, who was influenced by Lord Byron's poems, as well as other artists, also painted views of the moated castle, the image of which became widely known through photography in the age of early tourism.

After Freddie's death, the band initially tried to create a memorial for his fans and followers in London. However, the city council refused. A suitable location was found in Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva, where the band recorded their last albums and albums at Mountain Studios, and where Freddie also owned an apartment. The statue, created by sculptor Irena Sedlecka (1928-2020), stands almost 3 meters high above Lake Geneva and was unveiled five years after Freddie's death, on November 25, 1996, by Freddie's parents and Montserrat Caballé, in the presence of band members Brian May and Roger Taylor. The Romanesque church of St. Sulpice in the canton of Vaud was built by the Abbey of Cluny in the 11th and 12th centuries. It was initially dedicated to Saint Sulpice and later to Mary Magdalene. After the occupation by Bern in 1536, the church became Protestant and came into the possession of the city of Lausanne. The priory disappeared after 1536 or was repurposed. Freddie Mercury Statue, Montreux “If you want peace of mind, come to Montreux,” said Freddie Mercury (1946–1991). He not only lived here but also recorded six of his albums with Queen, including “Made in Heaven.” His statue on the lakeside promenade was erected in his memory in 1996.
