September 25, 2026, Bridge of Orchy

The historic Bridge of Orchy bridge was built in 1751 under Major Caulfeild as part of the military road network after the Jacobite uprisings. With a distinctive stone arch, it crosses the rushing River Orchy. Hikers on the West Highland Way cross it just behind the hotel to begin the ascent to Màm Carraigh hill.

On the West Highland Way, you walk "down from a mountain range" towards the lake for some time. Once at the bottom, you then walk past it in a wide arc.

Not as exciting as it's neighbour but still worthwhile.

Very fine mountain, especially in winter.

a landscape almost incomprehensible. Even though it is so alien to life, it has a special charm.

Stob a' Choire Odhair is just about a Munro, with a summit height of 945 metres. The summit is often over-shadowed by the nearby Stob Ghabhar, but is still a beautiful mountain, and certainly worth an ascent - the two mountains are generally climbed together via their connecting ridge-line.

Below the West Highland Way is a small ruined church, very romantic.
