This well was built in 1551 on the orders of Maximiliaan van Bourgondië. He had promised Scottish wool merchants in Veere to provide drinking water and rinsing water for the wool. The water from the roof of the Grote Kerk is collected and filtered here. The capacity is 200 m³. The ribbed vault rests on the open sides of the octagon with Tudor arches on slender columns.
